Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at UPTD Laboratorium Kesehatan Daerah Kabupaten Jember in reducing Coliform and E. coli bacteria.
Methods: A descriptive study was conducted using a purposive sampling technique. Water samples were taken from the WWTP inlet and outlet without repetition, meaning one collection at each point. The presence of Coliform and E. coli bacteria was analyzed using confirmatory tests.
Results: The confirmatory tests showed that Coliform and E. coli bacteria were present at the WWTP inlet with concentrations exceeding 11,000,000 JPT/100 ml. However, at the WWTP outlet, no Coliform or E. coli bacteria were detected, indicating effective bacterial removal.
Conclusions: The WWTP at UPTD Labkesda Jember effectively reduces Coliform and E. coli bacteria. However, further improvements, such as enhanced monitoring, operator training, and additional UV and chlorination treatments, are recommended to optimize bacterial elimination.
