Abstract
Objectives: Diarrhea is a digestive tract infection that is a global health problem, including in Indonesia. Diarrhea often attacks toddlers because the immune system is not yet perfect. E-coli bacteria is one of the main causes of diarrhea, transmitted through contaminated food, drink and the environment. Even though there have been efforts to prevent diarrhea, the results have not met the target. In 2023, in the city of Surakarta, of the estimated 5,725 toddlers with diarrhea, only 1,850 will receive health services.
Methods: This research method is analytical observational with a cross-sectional study design, in Surakarta City.
Results: Factors studied include demographics, knowledge, attitudes and habits of the community regarding diarrhea, as well as the availability of clean water facilities and environmental cleanliness. The results show that of the 5,725 toddlers with diarrhea in Surakarta City, only 32.3% received health services.
Conclusions: The majority of toddler diarrhea sufferers receive standard treatment by administering ORS and zinc. Factors such as community behavior, sanitation, and food hygiene contribute to the incidence of diarrhea. Other research shows a significant relationship between food and drink sanitation hygiene and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Exclusive breastfeeding has also been proven to reduce the risk of diarrhea in toddlers, with family support and breastfeeding training being the determining factors.
